A silver plated tea and coffee set with tray comprising a coffee pot, a teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl and tray. The coffee pot and teapot have fluted lower sections, lids and finials, the handles and finials are black Bakelite, the handles in classically art Deco style have a scroll motif at the top, the milk jug and sugar bowl have fluted lower sections with a metal handles reflecting the Art Deco shape of the coffee and tea pot handles, all bear the same Plato hallmark of David Hollander & Sons of Birmingham. The tray has handles in similar style with a gently scalloped edge and an engraved pattern to the face, no makers mark. All items are in good condition with minimal signs of wear. 

 

The tray measures 56.5cm (22.24") handle to handle and is 39.5cm (15.55") wide, the coffee pot stands 22cm (8.66") high and the teapot 15.5cm (6.1").

 

David Hollander & Sons was founded in 1866 as a silver-plated and allied goods wholesaler. In 1898 they began to manufacture their own goods and specialised in silverplated holloware and trophies. The company used the trade mark 'PLATO' from its PLATO WORKS, on the corner of Caroline Street and Northwood Street in Birmingham).
