Antique field surgical set dating from the mid 19th century.  The set comes in a leather case with mainly original content but with some additional items but all 19th century, velvet lined leather case.

 

The content includes:

An ebony handled Tetonomy knife
Forceps with tenaculum points
An ebony handled Iridectomy knife
An ebony handled Probe
A mahogany Bougie
A Nasal Speculum
Tenaculum forceps
Silver Tracheotomy diluting tube and cannula
Two glass bottles with brass caps
Two Cannulae
Three pairs of forceps

 

The case measures 21.5 x 9.5cm (8.5" x 3.75").

 

Medical items such as these were made to the highest quality standards as cost was not the main factor and they were necessarily made in small numbers and so are becoming increasingly rare.
