An antique Elmwood writing slope. The slope has a brass escutcheon bearing the inscription "Benj'n' Haywood Jnr" in a copperplate script, brass handles to the sides and includes a dip pen, nibs and sealing wax and an amount of ephemera. The box is in good condition and original. The box opens to reveal the leather writing slope, the pen tray includes a dip pen. A brass pin accessed from the open box, pulls out to release the "secret" drawer which slides out from the left hand side base, the drawer contains an amount of ephemera, detailed below.
The key is not original to the box and does not work the lock, it is included for decorative purposes, the brass plate from the lock is missing.

A conveyance dated 1809.
A schedule of title deeds dated 1835.
A menu card from the liner Bremen of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line dated 1912.
A page from The Times dated February 9th 1849 printed both sides.
A cheque dated 1958.
