An antique medical set in a silver toned box, marked ‘Soloid Brand Bacteriological Case Burroughs Wellcome & Co. London (Eng'), New York, Montreal, Berlin, Sydney, Cape Town Milan, Bombay, Shanghai, Buenos Aires’. Burroughs Wellcome existed from 1880 until 1936 when it became the Wellcome Foundation so we can put this case between these dates. Used for preparing Microscope slides and for use in the field the instruction booklet explains ".....Enables clinical examination to be carried out in the sick-chamber by the most recent scientific methods. Being so compact it may be carried in the pocket without inconvenience....".

A really rare and interesting collectible medical antique with it's original contents, labels and instructions.

 

The case is made of robust silvered metal and ingenious in construction opening out to be a working unit, this example contains what appear to be all the original contents which include:

The instruction booklet, in as new condition.
A glass funnel and pestle.
Miniature clamp.

Needle tube with needles.
Two glass convex saucers
A pack of filter papers in their original packaging.
A dropper with rubber bulb - bulb perished.
A full vial of Canada Balsam, plant based and used to conserve microscopic samples and prepare slide mounts. 
An empty vial of Distilled Water.
An empty vial of Ethyl Alcohol.
An empty vial of Absolute Alcohol.
Nine other vials of Microscopic Stain in tablet form.
A Burner.

 

The case measures 13 x 8.5 x 4cm.
