A beautiful and unusual stationery desk set including a combined dip pen and propelling pencil, a cut glass inkwell, a silver plated tray and a handwritten stamped letter with greetings cards dated 1885. The inkwell is cut glass with a silver plated collar, it has a chip to the front left hand corner, it stands 6cm (2.5") high. The dip pen and pencil is the star of the collection, it is made from silver plated brass, the silver plate is worn with the brass showing through on raised surfaces, it has an elaborate and detailed engine turned decor, the sliders top and bottom operate correctly, the pencil lead is not present but it has a ruff collar dip pen nib. The dip pen/pencil measures 13cm (5") in length including the nib and with the pencil retracted. They are presented on a silver plated tray with scalloped edges which measures 23.5cm x 9cm (9.25" x 3.5"). The letter is original, stamped and includes two printed cards, one a Happy New Years greeting and the other a typically sentimental Victorian poem.
